ASTM PS118-99 - 3.6.1999

1. Scope

1.1 This is a provisional standard having completed the Subcommittee level of balloting through the ASTM consensus balloting system. The American Concrete Institute (ACI) version of the method is ACI 222.1-96. ACI has asked ASTM to develop a method as quickly as possible to replace ACI 222.1-96. Information from individuals experimenting with this provisional test method will be extremely valuable in modifying the method and in developing parameters for the interlaboratory test program.

1.2 This provisional test method provides procedures for sampling and analysis of aggregate for water-extractable chloride using a Soxhlet extractor.

Note 1-This provisional test method is to be used when the chloride content has been found to be significantly high in aggregates, concretes, or mortars when tested in accordance with either Test Method C 1152 or C 1218.

1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard.

1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
